General information:
Dr Smith qualified from the University of Dundee in 1999 and trained in Medicine and Gastroenterology at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. She was awarded MD in 2008 for research into Enteral Tube Feeding and Bacterial Overgrowth in the Stomach and Small Intestine: Effects of Synbiotics in the Suppression of Microbial Pathogens. During specialty training she spent two years in Canada as a Liver Transplant Fellow at the Multi Organ Transplant Unit, Toronto General Hospital.
