General Information:
Mr Smolarek qualified at the Wroclaw Medical University in Poland in 2005 with higher degree of MD. After completing his internship, he started his surgical training in the 2nd Department of General and Oncological Surgery in Wroclaw. During his training he completed two years abroad in the Republic of Ireland. In 2013 he finished his General Surgical training and moved to work in the Republic of Ireland where he completed a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery and further developed his colorectal skills.
In 2015 he completed the European Society of Coloproctology Fellowship in Rome, followed by Advance Pelvic Oncology Fellowship in Swansea and then he was awarded Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Mr Smolarek was appointed a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Trust in March 2016, and since then he has been involved in teaching and research.
General areas of expertise:
All aspects of general surgical diseases including laparoscopic hernia repair, as well as all aspects of malignant and benign colorectal diseases.
Particular areas of expertise:
Advanced pelvic oncology, minimally invasive surgery, colorectal cancer surgery and surgery for inflammatory bowel disease.
