General information: Dr Steer graduated from University College Hospital in 1990 before undertaking specialist training and a research fellowship in Clinical Microbiology and Virology, at University College London Hospitals. She was appointed Consultant Microbiologist, Honorary Senior Lecturer & Infection Control Doctor at the Royal Free Hospital London in 2000, before escaping London and joining Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust as Consultant Microbiologist in 2005.

General areas of expertise:

• Clinical microbiology and virology
• Laboratory management

Particular areas of expertise:

• Dr Steer is head of department of microbiology
• Dr Steer is microbiology lead for haematology infection
• Dr Steer is microbiology lead for orthopaedic infection (incl. prosthetic joint infection)
