Dr Sam Waddy
Consultant in Acute Medicine and Intensive Care
Dr Waddy has been a consultant in Plymouth since 2007 and is the Clinical Director of Intensive Care. He qualified from St John’s College Cambridge and spent most of his postgraduate training in the Oxford Deanery, training in acute general medicine and intensive care.

General Areas of Expertise:
Dr Waddy is an experienced consultant in both intensive care and acute medicine and continues to work in both areas. He has been clinical director in both areas. He takes a very active role in many areas of service development, recently developing the rehabilitation services on intensive care and expanding the programme of research on the intensive care unit.
Particular Areas of Expertise:
Management of the acutely unwell patient, patient monitoring and observation recording.
Training and development of alternative workforce, Dr Waddy has previously been on the New Ways of Working in Healthcare Advanced Critical Care Practitioner Programme Board and is currently the clinical programme lead for Plymouth University for the ACCP Programme.
