We want you to make the best application you can. Here are some tips.
We understand that sometimes the application process can be daunting, so we wanted to put together some top tips for applying. If you would still like some further support on this, you can contact our Resourcing, Outreach and Events Lead on plh-tr.recruitmentcomms@nhs.net.
Firstly, we actively encourage you to contact the manager who is hiring before applying. This shows your interest and can give you some great insights about the role itself. The person hiring for the job vacancy is called the recruiting manager and their details will always be available on the job advert, including a contact number and email address. This will put you in good stead when being shortlisted, and support your knowledge if you are successful to getting to the interview stage.
Once you have found a job you wish to apply for you will be directed to a site called Trac. You will need to create an account to fill out the application form. Your trac account will allow you to:
Search for jobs
Set up job alerts
Set up your online CV to save time applying for other jobs
If an online application isn’t working for you, don’t worry, we offer offline applications too. If you’d like an offline application, you can contact our general recruitment team on plh-tr.recruitment-team@nhs.net.
Give yourself plenty of time to fill out the form, it can be time consuming.
Make sure you provide a correct email address and telephone number. This is how we contact you.
Complete all sections of the form. If a section does not apply to you, enter N/A (not applicable) in the space provided.
Read the job description and person specification. We shortlist applicants against the job description and person specification so make sure you give examples of how your skills and experience are relevant to these requirements.
References. These are required to cover your activities over the last three years including periods of employment and full-time education.
Proofread the form and check you have answered each section. You cannot make changes to your application after it has been submitted.
Submit your application.
Keep a copy of your application, this may help you prepare if you come for an interview.
The supporting evidence section is the personal statement. This is your opportunity to show why you are the best candidate.
Read and refer to the job description and person specification:
Pick out key criteria and values. Make sure you include examples of how your skills and experience apply to this.
Make sure you include relevant qualifications and training.
Give examples. This will demonstrate your skills and suitability for the role.
Finish with a positive summary. Tell us why you want this role and what you will bring to it.
Use relevant examples to support your skills and experiences. Your examples could be from present or previous jobs, community or voluntary work, work experience, leisure interests or activities in the home.
When you are providing an example think about the following:
Situation. What happened.
Task. What needed to be done.
Action. What you did.
Result. The outcome of your action.
