Head and Neck Services

All newly diagnosed cases of head and neck cancer are discussed at a weekly Multidisciplinary Team meeting (MDM) held immediately before the clinic. ENT surgeons, Maxillofacial surgeons, Plastic surgeons, Pathologists and Head & Neck Radiologists in addition to the head and neck clinic staff attend this meeting. This is part of a joint videoconferencing facility with RCHT hospital in Truro to allow discussion of patients in West Cornwall.

Our head and neck lump clinic is a consultant delivered service aimed at being a one stop diagnostic facility for head & neck cancers. The clinic runs weekly and comprises the following clinical staff: 

  • Consultant Head and Neck Surgeons
  • Consultant Clinical Oncologist 
  • Macmillan Speech & Language Therapist
  • Macmillan Head & Neck Specialist Dietitian
  • Macmillan Head & Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Experienced outpatient nurses
  • Training grades from all disciplines 

The following services are available at the clinic: 

  • Initial consultation
  • Same day fine needle aspiration of neck lumps and reporting 
  • Ultrasound guided biopsy and report
  • Same day biopsy of suspicious lesions
  • Access to dedicated slots for imaging of new cases
  • Access to theatre within 3 days of diagnostic procedures
  • Post radiotherapy and chemotherapy clinic with a nurse, speech therapist and dietician
