Essential refurbishment work - Pharmacy Aseptic Unit

Patients who receive injectable treatments from the inpatient pharmacy at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust may be interested to know about planned works to improve the facilities. A refurbishment project is taking place in the aseptic suite to ensure that essential maintenance takes place.

An aseptic unit is a sterile, controlled environment where highly qualified staff prepare medicines for patients such as chemotherapy treatments, intravenous antibiotics, intravenous nutrition and cutting-edge medicines for clinical trials. Aseptic units improve patient safety and release nursing staff, giving them more time for patient care.

Works start at the end of January 2025 with an estimated completion date of summer 2025. To minimise disruption to patient medications, the aseptic services team will be working slightly differently. During this period, there are contingency measures in place to ensure minimal disruption to your treatment. We will continue to work closely with our clinical teams to ensure your care remains unaffected. While there may be some adjustments in how treatments are scheduled, please be assured that we are doing everything possible to minimise delays. This includes working with partners for a continuous service for relevant prescriptions, and there are plans are in place for emergency and clinically urgent requests.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the clinical team involved in your care. Thank you for your understanding and support.
