Plymouth Hospitals Charity is delighted to announce the release of its latest annual report for 2022-23, highlighting another year of incredible achievements and the substantial impact made on local healthcare services. As a leading charitable organisation supporting Derriford Hospital and other healthcare facilities in Plymouth, the report demonstrates the unwavering dedication and generosity of the community.

The annual report reveals the significant strides made by Plymouth Hospitals Charity in advancing patient care, funding state-of-the-art medical equipment, supporting research, and enhancing the hospital environment for staff, patients and visitors. Through the collective efforts of donors, volunteers, and healthcare professionals, the charity has been able to make a tangible difference in the lives of patients and their families.

Key highlights from the report include:

  1. Transforming Hospital Spaces: The charity has spearheaded various initiatives to transform hospital environments, creating comfortable and supportive spaces for patients and their loved ones. Working in collaboration with UHP and NHS Charities Together we were able to award significant grants towards the building of the groundbreaking Intensive Care Secret Garden ward and outdoor garden space. 
     
  2. Enhancing Patient Wellbeing and Experience: The report showcases how Plymouth Hospitals Charity has prioritised initiatives to enhance patient wellbeing and experience. This include funding for The Snowdrop Suite which provides a calm ‘home from home’ space where parents who are experiencing a baby bereavement can spend time together for as long as they need to.
     
  3. Funding Advanced Medical Equipment: Plymouth Hospitals Charity has successfully procured and provided cutting-edge medical equipment such as Accuvein finders and Lumbar Drain Tests to enhance the capabilities of healthcare providers. These advancements have resulted in improved diagnoses, more accurate treatments, and better patient outcomes.
     
  4. Supporting Research and Innovation: Plymouth Hospitals Charity has played an ongoing role in supporting research projects and innovative healthcare solutions. By investing in research, the charity aims to drive medical advancements, improve treatment options, and ultimately save lives.
     
  5. Community Engagement and Fundraising Success: The annual report celebrates the incredible support and dedication of the local community. Through numerous fundraising events, sponsored challenges, and generous donations, the charity has been able to raise essential funds to support its initiatives and expand its effectiveness.

Commenting on the release of the annual report, Corinne Smith who’s the Charity Development Manager said “it has been a really rewarding experience to reflect on the year and to gather all the stories into this Report. It allows us to share the incredible impact our organisation has on the lives of individuals and communities. It is a privilege to document the progress, achievements, and stories of hope that highlight the transformative work we do. It is an honour to be a part of something that stems from people’s belief in the NHS and the part it plays in all our lives. Thank you to every single donor and supporter, we really couldn’t’ do any of this without you."
