Departing Derriford Worker wants Charity Donation instead of leaving present
Katie Hooper has worked for University Hospitals Plymouth for the last twenty years. In 2005 Katie joined the NHS filing medical records followed by a spell with the IT helpdesk and she’s currently an Audit, Assurance and Compliance Manager, one of the many unsung non-clinical staff that keep the NHS working.
After gaining a promotion Katie’s leaving her current role in Plymouth for the glamour of the English Riviera to join the Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust armed only with her trusty laminator (she bought it herself for the team in her office.)
Katie has asked her colleagues not to buy her a leaving present but, instead, to make a donation to Plymouth Hospitals Charity in order to make a difference to patients’ lives:
“There’s only so much stationary a girl needs, I don’t need anything and part of our team deal with Patient Experience and have been working on all kinds of things like End of Life Care and helping prevent older people getting bored in hospital and I can see that there’s no money in the NHS for these niceties which have to come from somewhere. We don’t have the budget so they’re supplied by the charity.”
Katie’s last day in the Plymouth Office will be on Wednesday December 11th. If anyone wants to contribute to Katie’s “leaving fund” just click on the link which will take you to her fundraising page:
