Kaiya Wheeler-Foulkes raises over £500 to say “Thank you” to staff at Derriford Hospital

Kaiya donates £500 to CHDU 14-year old Kaiya Wheeler-Foulkes has raised over £500 for the Children’s High Dependency Unit (CDHU) at Derriford Hospital.

Kaiya’s family holiday was cut short after she started experiencing terrible pain in her abdomen. She was referred to Derriford Hospital where it was discovered that she was suffering from Peritonitis caused by a burst appendix.

Following emergency surgery, Kaiya was admitted to the CDHU where she was looked after by a team of nurses. She and her family have praised the nurses at Derriford for the fantastic care that they provided.

To say thank you, Kaiya decided to raise money for the hospital. Whilst celebrating her dad’s birthday, Kaiya and her family set up donation buckets and sold cones of sweets. Knowing what she had been through, her family and friends gave generously. Today, Kaiya and her family returned to the CDHU today with a cheque for £550.

Kaiya’s mother, Tina Wheeler said, “If it wasn’t for the professionalism of Derriford Hospital and their quick actions, she wouldn’t be here today. The staff in the CDHU were amazing and made her stay more bearable. We are so grateful for everything they have done for us.”
