Changes to Car Park F and scanner relocations

Symbol for disabled parking

So … what’s going on in Car Park F at Derriford Hospital?

At the weekend our contractors sectioned off part of Car Park F (often referred to as the disabled car park), as we will be relocating our MRI and CT scanners from Car Park B in the next few weeks. This is all part of the enabling works for the new Emergency Care Building, and to ensure patient safety during the construction period. The hospital drop-off bays are not affected.

But what about disabled car parking spaces?

The good news is that we are not losing any blue badge spaces. In fact, after listening to patient feedback, 15 larger disabled parking bays have been created in Car Park A (opposite the main entrance) for immediate use, which will be more accessible for wheelchair users and those with larger vehicles. Some further disabled parking spaces in Car Park F will be made available again once the works have been completed.

Is there still a mobility bus?

We have a free shuttle bus service available for those patients and their carers that need help getting around the Derriford Hospital site.

Available 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

We regret that the bus cannot currently transport persons in wheelchairs, but folded wheelchairs, walkers & other large items can be accommodated.

Solutions are also being sought for additional seating and shelter for those who require it.

How do I use the service?

  • Park in any disabled or standard car parking space, as applicable.
  • Call the parking desk on 01752 432000 or 07827 897431 giving your location.
  • The driver will collect you and drive you to wherever you need to go within the Derriford site.
  • After your appointment or visit is over, call again. You will be collected and returned to your parked vehicle. Alternatively, go to the parking desk, by the main entrance, who will call the bus for you.
