Argyle visit brings Christmas joy to children at Derriford
Last week, players from Plymouth Argyle visited Derriford hospital's Children's wards to spread some festive cheer to patients and staff.
This annual Christmas visit is always a special day for UHP patients, and the players, who bring gifts and much needed joy and excitement to the children on the wards here at Derriford.
Sue Rogers, UHP Play Service Team Leader, said: “It makes such a huge difference for the children, especially the ones that have been in here for a long period of time as it helps break the day up, especially when we have so many Argyle fans here”
Reflecting on why the visits are important to Argyle, Kevin Nancekivell, Plymouth Argyle First Team Coach said: “It's always lovely to come, and the children love seeing the players and getting their autographs and having pictures taken with them. It puts everything into perspective, and we always feel very welcomed here”
Several parents have shown huge appreciation as well, with the visit being an unexpected surprise for their children and giving them a much needed boost during a difficult time.
Joe Edwards, Plymouth Argyle Captain, said: “We know how tough being in hospital is not only for the kids, but for the parents too, so if we can come in and cheer the kids up, and make their time a little bit better, its always worth it.”
