Car Parking – Public Tariff | Latest News

Car Parking – Public Tariff

From 1 May 2025, the cost of parking at Derriford Hospital is increasing for those who pay. The income from parking goes directly to the Trust and helps support our car parks and services, and prices are reviewed and updated regularly to ensure we cover our costs. The changes bring our tariff in-line with other Trusts in Devon.

Free parking remains available to:

  • Blue badge holders
  • Trust volunteers
  • Resident parents of children in hospital or parents whose babies are being cared for in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
  • Relatives of those patients who are critically ill. The Intensive Care Unit will contact the parking desk.
  • Oncology patients attending for treatment.
  • Relatives of patients being cared for on the End of Life Care Pathway.
  • Members of the public donating blood if parked in the dedicated spaces in the multistorey car park. (visit the Plymouth Blood Donor Centre website  for more information).
  • All patients who are undergoing a course of treatment who are required to attend the hospital for at least 3 days a week. (Must supply an appointment card or letter).
  • Free car parking is available for carers who have agreed to contribute to the care of the patient (cared for person) whilst in hospital and should be offered by the ward manager or deputy as part of the agreement with the carer. One car parking pass per day is available per patient, which can be shared between carers. The Carers Card must be shown to the Parking Desk on level 6 to obtain free car parking.

Some patients in receipt of certain state benefits may also be entitled to a refund of their parking costs and travel expenses, and discounts are also available for frequent visitors. More information is available on the ‘Getting here’ page.

The cost of parking at Derriford Hospital for those who pay will be as follows from 1 May 2025:

  • Up to 30 minutes: Free
  • Up to 2 hours: £3.20
  • Up to 4 hours: £6.40
  • Up to 6 hours: £9.50
  • Up to 24 hours: £15.90

Raising car parking charges is not something we want to do, but we need the income to provide and maintain our car parks, and any money that is left over supports us to provide patient care.

Derriford shuttle bus

We have a free shuttle bus service available for patients and their carers that need additional help getting around the Derriford Hospital site. This is available 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

To use the service:

  • Park in any disabled or standard car parking space, as applicable.
  • Call the parking desk on 01752 432000 or 07827 897431 giving your location.
  • The driver will collect you and drive you to wherever you need to go within the Derriford site.
  • After your appointment or visit is over, call again. You will be collected and returned to your parked vehicle. Alternatively, go to the parking desk, by the main entrance, who will call the bus for you.

The increase in tariff continues to maintain alignment with the Royal Devon University Hospital sites in North and East Devon, where prices were increased on 1 April 2025.

Park and ride

  • There is a public park and ride site located north of Derriford Hospital at the George junction.
  • Parking is free, although you will need to purchase a ticket to travel on the bus. Alternatively, you can walk to the hospital in about 20 minutes.
  • For bus numbers and timetables visit the council’s George park and ride page.
