Head and shoulder shot of Jo Beer, Chief Operating OfficerJo Beer, Chief Operating Officer, is leaving the Trust to take up a new role as Chief Executive of Sirona Care & Health

A nurse by profession who trained in Plymouth, Jo has been Chief Operating Officer with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP) since 2021.

She said: “UHP has been such a huge part of my life — from starting my journey here as a student nurse in 1986, to leaving in 2025 as Chief Operating Officer.

“It’s hard to put into words what this organisation and the people within it mean to me. I will forever be grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, the unwavering support I’ve received, and most of all, for the privilege of working alongside truly exceptional colleagues. Every day, I’ve witnessed the compassion, dedication, and resilience colleagues bring to their roles — always going above and beyond for our patients and each other.

“Although I’m sad to be leaving at such a pivotal time in UHP’s journey, I do so with deep respect and confidence in the collective strength of my colleagues. I’m also excited for what lies ahead, as I step into the role of Chief Executive at Sirona Care & Health — an opportunity that allows me to continue contributing to improving care, reducing inequities, and leading in partnership across systems and communities.”

Interim Chief Executive Mark Hackett said: “Whilst we are delighted on a personal note for Jo and her success in moving on to be a Chief Executive, it is with a heavy heart that we will see her leaving the organisation given the enormous contribution she has made over the years.

“Jo has led numerous changes across the organisation which have improved the care for patients, the environment for staff and has been true to her values and those of the Trust, often in the most difficult and challenging of circumstances. We owe Jo an enormous debt of gratitude for her contribution and we all wish her well in the future.”

Jo will leave the Trust in October 2025 to join Sirona Health & Care. Arrangements are being made to advertise and fill the Chief Operating Officer role on an interim basis until a new substantive successor is appointed.
