Three leaders of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) visited Derriford Hospital on the eve of the NHS 75 birthday. They visited Erme and Honeyford wards and engaged with registered nurses and midwives working in the hospital in a round-table event.

Ruth Walker MBE, Registrant Council Member and Vice Chair of Council, Claire Johnston, Registrant Council Member and Lise-Anne Boissiere, Joint Executive Director of People and Organisational Effectiveness spent the morning at Derriford Hospital.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council is the regulator for nursing and midwifery professions in the UK, maintaining a register of all nurses, midwives and specialist community public health nurses and nursing associates eligible to practise within the UK.

Chief Nurse Darryn Allcorn said: “It was great to welcome the NMC council to the south west and more specifically Plymouth, we were able to have an open dialogue with our regulator and showcase the passion and compassion of our teams across the organisation. The NMC members were extremely complimentary about the time they spent with us.”

In the afternoon the NMC guests went on to visit Plymouth Marjon University and on 5 July the Council held their Council meeting in the south west, in Exeter.
