New electronic patient record goes live this week
This Thursday 23 July 2026 we’re launching a new electronic patient record (EPR) across our hospitals and community sites.
Our new Epic EPR will bring patient health information together in a digital format that can be shared across different health care settings in Devon. It will include a range of data, including medication and allergies, immunisation status, laboratory test results, radiology images and vital signs.
The Devon EPR will bring together all patient records across three partners:
- Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (live on Epic since 2020)
- Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (live on Epic since 3 April 2026)
- University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (launching 23 July 2026)
After we introduce our EPR, you might see members of your clinical team doing more work on computers, phones or other electronic devices than before. This will be part of their work checking your record so they can look after you to the highest possible standards.
Sarah Brampton, Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Finance Officer said: "Colleagues are really excited about our new EPR and I’d like to thank everyone who has been working so hard to get ready for the launch. As we get to grips with our new system, patient safety and care will remain our top priority and we will continue to deliver the highest possible quality of care.
“We are asking for our patients and their families to bear with us over the coming days while colleagues get up to speed with the new system. If you have concerns or need additional help with your care at any time, please talk to your clinical team.”
For patients, one of the most exciting parts of the EPR is the new MY CARE patient portal. This is a secure app and website that patients and their families can use on their computer, mobile or tablet to access parts of their health care record such as appointment times, test results and much more.
Please visit our MY CARE webpage to find out more. Your clinical team will also be able to talk to you about MY CARE.
