New Interventional Radiology rooms will significantly decrease waiting lists

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust is celebrating the completion of its newly refurbished Interventional Radiology (IR) rooms, which has also involved an expansion of the department from two to three rooms.
Each room has been designed ergonomically, with state-of-the-art equipment, increased space for patients and staff as well as the addition of control rooms which are used for reviewing images, diagnosing conditions and planning purposes.
Interventional Radiology uses minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat diseases. They use medical imaging guidance such as x-ray fluroroscopy, computed tomography or ultrasound.
The programme of works which has taken three years to complete, has already recorded seeing an increase in patients which will work towards reducing waiting lists significantly.
Lisa Dunn, UHP Interventional Radiology Clinical Project Manager said: “Our third room went live with our first patient on 6 November and I just want to thank all of our staff for their resilience whilst this transformation has been taking place. We have all had to learn to work differently in the long period of construction and there has been great team work throughout”
“Having the three rooms is going to make such a difference to patients and will mean we can significantly decrease our waiting lists and waiting times.”
