Plymouth City Council Health and Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee visits Plymouth Community Diagnostic Centre
Members of Plymouth City Council’s Health and Social Care Scrutiny Panel visited the Plymouth Community Diagnostic Centre yesterday to see first-hand how the new facility is helping improve access to diagnostic services for local people. The panel is made up of nominated Plymouth City Councillors who review local health service delivery.
Councillors were welcomed by University Hospitals Plymouth’s CT Lead, Colin Stuckey, Business Change Manager, Jo Billings, and Building Manager, Rachel Oxenham. During the visit, the panel members toured the centre and heard from staff about the range of services available and the impact the facility is already having, just three months after opening its doors.
Located on Western Approach in Plymouth city centre, the appointment-only Community Diagnostic Centre offers a wide range of diagnostic services, including CT, MRI, X-ray and ultrasound scans, as well as cardiology, lung function, vascular and neurophysiology appointments. The centre also provides booked blood test appointments and adult audiology services.
Designed to bring diagnostic services closer to patients and reduce waiting times, the centre is expected to deliver more than 91,600 tests and scans each year. Appointments are available from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, offering greater flexibility and convenience for patients across the region.
Councillors heard how the Community Diagnostic Centre is supporting earlier diagnosis, improving patient experience and helping to relieve pressure at Derriford Hospital.
The visit provided an opportunity for panel members to learn more about the centre’s role in supporting the health and wellbeing of Plymouth residents and to meet some of the staff delivering these vital services.
