University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust given £1.8 Million to improve patient care

University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust (UHP) is pleased to announce the receipt of over £1.8 million in grant funding from the Department of Health and Social Care. This investment is designated for essential ventilation system enhancements in two key areas: the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Postbridge Ward.
The allocation includes £1 Million for the NICU, which provides specialised care for extremely preterm and critically ill newborns across the South West Peninsula, which includes Exeter, Torbay, Barnstaple, Truro, and Plymouth. A further £815,000 is allocated to Postbridge Ward, the Trust's day-case and overnight recovery unit.
Upgrading ventilation systems is a strategic investment that enhances patient safety, reduces infection rates, and improves overall operational efficiency.
John Stephens, Director of Estates and Facilities said:
"We are truly grateful for this funding. Efficient ventilation is crucial when caring for seriously unwell children and adults. These improvements will significantly enhance patient safety by minimising infection risks and addressing critical maintenance needs within our facilities."
The enhancement projects are currently underway and are scheduled for completion by March 2026.
