We are upgrading our hot water systems this summer
Due to a problem with our systems in August 2023, where wards were without hot water after a leak was identified, a large upgrade programme is planned to avoid any future issues.
For this essential maintenance and upgrade work to take place on 6 of our 9 water systems, a number of boiler shutdowns need to happen to improve the future quality and resilience of the hot water systems at the hospital.
The Estates team have been preparing for months to deliver a staggered work programme to ensure minimum disruption to patients and patient washing.
Several areas will be affected during the work which is phased during weekends throughout the summer from May to September.
Patient safety and comfort is our highest priority and staff will be on hand to keep disruption to a minimum. Cold water and drinking water will be available, and ward staff will facilitate alternative locations for washing where possible.
Once the upgrade is complete, each individual water storage unit will operate in isolation, ensuring that any further issues with hot water at Derriford are mitigated.
