Patients Know Best (PKB)

On Thursday 23 July 2026 University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust went live with a new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) throughout our hospitals and community sites.

Our EPR has brought patient health information together in a secure, digital format shared across Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust.

One of the most exciting things about our EPR is a new secure digital way to manage your appointments with a patient portal called MY CARE. This will bring your medical information and interactions with your clinical team into one place.

Introducing MY CARE means we no longer use Patients Know Best (PKB) to manage your test results, and we would like to invite you to sign up to MY CARE.

Here are some of the features you’ll find within MY CARE:

  • Manage your appointments: MY CARE holds your recent and upcoming appointments, so it’s easy to check where you need to be and when.
  • Get your test results: Once your test results have arrived you can view them on MY CARE. They are clearly laid out and easy to view.
  • Share your health information: Allow a family member or carer to access your health and appointment information by enabling Proxy Access
  • Reduce the number of letters you get through the post: when you sign up to MY CARE we will send you most of your information digitally through MY CARE, with a notification as text or email.

SHiP patients

If you are currently using Patients Know Best (PKB) with the Sexual Health in Plymouth (SHiP) service your results and messages from your clinical team will continue to be provided through PKB and you will continue to engage with your clinical team in the same way you do now. For all other aspects of care at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust MY CARE will enable you to view your hospital and specialist community medical information digitally, in one convenient place. For more information about your care with SHiP please visit the SHiP dedicated website.

Legacy data in PKB

Although no new information from University Hospitals Plymouth will come through PKB from 23 July, you will continue to be able to access information that was previously shared by University Hospitals Plymouth for as long as you keep your PKB account. If you are connected to other healthcare organisations through PKB, they may continue to add information to your record. If you decide to close your account, you will no longer have access to the historic information or new data from other providers using PKB.

If you wish to close your account and you want to keep your old information, we recommend you screenshot anything you want to keep from a phone, or copy and paste from a web browser.

We would like to thank you for using Patients Know Best and we hope you have found it a helpful addition to the care you receive.
