New Hospital Programme Update

The Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves has today presented the government’s plans for the Budget, and although a segment does mention financial support for the NHS, we await to hear further details for individual New Hospital Programme schemes.
University Hospitals Plymouth’s Future Hospital Director Stuart Windsor said: “While we await further news regarding the New Hospital Programme, we continue to work positively with the team and local stakeholders to progress our work towards a new Urgent and Emergency Care facility at Derriford Hospital. Planning for the new facility is now very advanced, and we will shortly commence demolition of the former children’s theatres to make way for the new building. Our target remains to begin construction of the new building in earnest in the spring of 2025, and we will of course share any news on the outcome of the review of the New Hospitals Programme once we receive it.
“Alongside the new Urgent and Emergency Care facility, construction of the new Dartmoor Building at the Derriford Hospital site is currently underway and is progressing at rapid pace. This building will be the new home for a number of services including a new Urgent Treatment Centre, and the relocation of the Fracture Clinic and main outpatients. These moves and additional services are critical to enable the New Hospitals Programme project to progress, and will enable the Trust to continue to provide excellent care while the construction of the new Emergency Department takes place.”
