Mayflower Crew Conquers Atlantic in Epic Challenge for Mustard Tree

The Mayflower Crew

In an extraordinary feat of endurance and determination, the Mayflower Crew has successfully completed their transatlantic rowing challenge, arriving in Antigua after weeks at sea. Their monumental journey was not only a test of physical and mental resilience but also a heartfelt mission to raise funds for the Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support Centre at Derriford Hospital.

The four friends, who set off from the Canaries on the 11th December last year, faced punishing conditions, including high winds, relentless waves, and the exhaustion of rowing in shifts around the clock. But one of the most dramatic moments of their voyage came when their boat collided with a marlin in the open ocean. The powerful fish struck the hull with force, causing damage that the crew had to urgently assess and manage. After hasty repairs, their vessel remained seaworthy, and the team pressed on towards their goal, demonstrating incredible resilience in the face of adversity.

The funds raised by the Mayflower Crew will directly benefit the Mustard Tree Centre, ensuring it can continue to offer essential services such as counselling, physiotherapy, and support groups. These contributions are vital in allowing the centre to provide comprehensive care and comfort to those who need it most.

Despite the many challenges they faced—including an unexpected encounter with a very big fish—the Mayflower Crew’s journey stands as a testament to human spirit and community support. Their dedication has not only raised vital funds for cancer support services but also inspired countless others to take on their own challenges for a greater cause.
We’re looking forward to welcoming the Mayflower Crew home very soon after they’ve had a well-earned break in Antigua!
