Who are we?

Clinical Engineering is a department based in Derriford Hospital. We provide technical support to wards and departments around the site.

Our team:
• Looks after medical equipment used on wards

• Helps fix equipment when it goes wrong

• Checks electrical equipment

• Sets up equipment that patients need in their bays (the area around their bed)

Coming onto the ward:

Our team is easy to recognise as we wear black tops with our department name sewn in bright orange.

Sometimes we will need to come into a patient’s bay to set up equipment that the ward have asked for.

We are not doctors or nurses so cannot answer any questions patients or their visitors may have about their care or treatment.

We can however talk to you about what we are setting up and how it works. The team like it when patients say hello and we are happy to chat.

Some of the equipment we help with:

Bariatric chairs

Hoists Monitors

Flow meters

Blood pressure machines
