Welcome to our Colorectal Patient Stratified Follow-Up (PSFU).
Previously patients who had completed treatment for colorectal cancer would have regular telephone follow-up appointments with the colorectal nurse specialists. Moving forward with changes to guidelines and services we are now offering patients this new form of follow-up.
Patient Stratified Follow up (PSFU) puts you in control of your care and we simply prompt you throughout your surveillance period.
Follow-up is a necessary precaution after a cancer diagnosis as some patients can get recurrence of their cancer. We will keep a close eye on you by completing regular bloods, CT scans and colonoscopies. You will find the information of the intervals for these tests within your End of Treatment Summary. If you have any worrying symptoms or are concerned then please call our team. If required, then we will request further investigations or an urgent appointment for further assessment.
Please call us if you experience any of the following symptoms:
-
Continuing pain that doesn't go away with usual pain relief.
-
Unexplained lumps, bumps or swellings.
-
An unexplained change in bowel habit that lasts for six weeks or more, especially if you are waking up in the night with loose stools.
-
Unexplained loss of appetite, weight loss or increasing girth.
-
Any new bleeding from your back passage (or in your urine).
-
Unexplained shortness of breath or cough which lasts more than three weeks.
The stoma care service will advise you of their follow up procedure. You can also contact them if you have any of the following problems:
Appliance leakage.
Sore peristomal skin.
Change in bowel function.
Template check.
Any problems with lifestyle issues related to stoma care management.
