Who will look after my general health after transplantation:
Once you have been transplanted, your GP will receive information about your medical status, as well as details of the transplant. Please continue to see your GP for any general health problems that may arise, your GP will always ring us for any advice if they think it may be related to your renal health.
N.B. Please make sure your GP checks with the Transplant team before prescribing any new medications, as some may interact with your immunosuppressants.
Who should I go to if I am struggling with my mental health?
Issues with mental health are common following transplantation. It can be overwhelming with all the new changes that are happening to you, as well as worry about the health of your living donor or the tragedy for the deceased donor’s family.
Moreover, we now have Covid-19 to contend with. In addition, certain immunosuppression drugs can cause mood swings and anxiety/depression, whilst they are being adjusted down.
The transplant team is always here to discuss any worries you may have and can signpost you for treatment/therapies if you feel you need it.
