Clinics are held twice a week on a Monday and Thursday morning.

The Main Outpatient Department has its own entrance, which is located at the front of the hospital, to the right of the main hospital entrance. You will be asked to take a seat in waiting area 2.

Please bring a list of your medication and a urine sample.

DO NOT take your morning dose of immunosuppression for that day until you have had your post-clinic blood tests.

You will be called through by the clinic nurse who will:

  • Take your blood pressure

  • Weigh you

  • Test your urine

You will then be asked to take a seat until you are called to see either a doctor, or one of the transplant nurses.  You will usually see the doctor at one appointment and the nurse at the following appointment: you will then see one or the other on each alternate visit.

Once you have seen the doctor, you will be asked to take a seat in waiting area 2, where you need to take a ticket and a phlebotomist will take your bloods.  All blood requests are entered onto the system via computer, so you do not need a blood test form.

Subsequent appointments will be made at the direction of your renal clinician and, once your follow-up date is decided, the bookings team will schedule your next appointment and send you letters to notify you of the date.

You are then free to leave unless you have been specifically asked to stay in the hospital until your blood results are back.

A translator service for those patients where English is not their first language or who are hearing impaired is available, as is involvement from our learning disabilities team for patients who may benefit from their support.

We also hold a drop-in clinic for transplant-related problems.  If you feel you need to use this service, simply ring the transplant office on 01752 439957 to discuss this with the team.
