Skylark has 24 rehab beds caring for patients over 18 years old who require intensive general rehabilitation.
You are being transferred to the General Rehab Unit (GRU) to receive further assessments and rehabilitation. The professional team includes Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dietitians, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Workers, Discharge Case Managers and Doctors.
Your care will be led by a Senior Doctor.
Our teams are here to ensure you receive the best possible care and to ensure you have the support needed at your discharge destination. It is important that any concerns you or your family have are raised at the earliest opportunity to allow us to seek support or discuss other discharge pathways that may be available to you.
We have an inclusive visiting policy that encourages visitors to be part of the rehabilitation process. Often those people close to you become a valuable part of the rehabilitation process and their input is always welcomed. However, we do ask that protected meal times are adhered to.
We ask that you engage with all members of the team 7 days a week, to get up, get dressed and to keep moving as best as possible, with up to 3 hours of therapy per day. This could include 1:1 sessions, group therapy, assessments and washing and dressing yourself.
All staff members will ensure therapy happens every day by enabling and encouraging you to become more independent with everyday tasks, where able to. Therapists will work with you daily in most cases.
We acknowledge that you will likely need rest time within your day which will be factored in. We will work with you and your family/carers to ensure a smooth transition to your discharge destination which will be discussed with you during your stay with us.
Alongside our rehabilitation service, the ward also provides six End-of-Life care beds, supported by Marie Curie, which runs as a separate service.
Therapy dogs can be available on request, where dogs and handlers are available. Sensible pets are allowed to visit.
Group activities are also available.
If you are feeling unwell, we ask that you please do not visit your relative. This is to protect them and the other patients and staff on site.
