We hope this booklet will provide you with all the relevant information you will need. If further assistance is required, please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff.

You are very welcome to have a relative / friend bring you to the entrance of Postbridge Unit, but those accompanying you will be asked to leave and will be given a phone number to contact us. If you feel you need your relative / friend to remain with you whilst you wait for surgery, please discuss and arrange this through preassessment.

On arrival, you will be seen by your surgeon, anaesthetist and Postbridge nurse who will answer all your questions and inform you of an estimated time for your operation.

Please ensure you have a responsible adult to collect you, and if you are a daycase please ensure they will be with you for 24 hours post-surgery.

What do I need to bring?

Daycase Patients

  • All medication including inhalers

  • Dressing gown and slippers

Overnight Patients

  • All medication including inhalers

  • Dressing gown and slippers

  • Toiletries for overnight

Please limit the number of valuables you bring with you as the Trust will not take responsibility for such items or items lost. If unsure, please hand your valuables to a nurse for safekeeping.

Visiting

We are unable to accommodate visitors for daycase patients but when we contact your relative to collect, we will ask them to ring the doorbell and wait outside the Unit, on the chairs provided, until you are ready to go home.

If you are staying overnight, then we may be able to accommodate a visitor but please discuss with the nurse.

Please can you arrange for one relative / friend to be your contact phoning Postbridge for update.

Unfortunately, there is no mobile signal on Postbridge but you are welcome to use the wifi or our landline.

Text Follow up Service

The day after your discharge you will receive a mobile phone text which provides a link to enable you to give your feedback on how you are feeling and on your experience. We appreciate your comments and feedback.
