Tonsillitis and abscesses behind your tonsils:

Your tonsils are at the back of your throat. They can get infected.  Symptoms include:

  • A very sore throat

  • White spots (pus) at the back of your throat

  • Difficulty swallowing

  • Swelling

  • Tenderness (your throat feels sore to touch)

To help you recover you should:

  • Rest and get lots of sleep

  • Drink plenty of hot or cold drinks

  • Take paracetamol or ibuprofen before meals to  help you swallow

  • Take all of the antibiotic you have been given.

Please ask if you have any questions about how or when to take this medicine or if there are any side effects you should know about

  • If you smoke try not to have cigarette for at least a week as smoking may slow down how fast  you heal

  • Try to keep away from people with coughs or colds

If your symptoms get worse or you have problems swallowing please contact Lynher Ward on 01752 245052.
