Looking after your fractured wrist

When you were discharged from hospital you were given advice by your doctor and physiotherapist.

You can ask them to write this advice below to help you remember

It is important to:

  • Be aware of any pain you have. Use ice, painkillers and keep your wrist up high using a sling, pillows or cushions

  • Do the exercises on pages 3-4 to help get you moving again

  • Start off by lifting light objects for example: a cup of tea or coffee to help improve your strength

Exercises:

We would like you to do these exercises ….. times ….. times a day.

Ice advice:

Ice is very good in helping manage pain and swelling. You must not put the ice directly on your skin; wrap the ice in a tea towel. Do not use for more than 20 minutes.

Further advice:

If after 4 weeks you are struggling to get back your normal movement you can ask your doctor to refer you to have physiotherapy.
