The lithotripter

We provide emergency and elective lithotripsy for renal and ureteric stones with our on-site lithotripter which was installed in 2020 and is the Storz SLX-F2 model. Using this machine has many benefits;

The energy waves produced by the machine are accurately focused on the stone with the built in X-ray/ ultrasound and travel through the body tissues without damaging them. The stones are broken up reducing it to ‘sand’ or ‘gravel’ like consistency which can then be passed naturally through urination with little or no pain. This procedure is usually a day case, spending 2-4 hours in the unit.
