Plymouth Hospitals Charity Opens New Hub at Derriford Hospital

Plymouth Hospitals Charity is excited to announce the creation of a new hub at Derriford Hospital, taking over the site of the former Outpatients Pharmacy facility, located at the hospital’s front entrance. This prominent location offers an incredible opportunity for the charity to enhance its visibility and engagement with the public, staff, and patients alike.

A New Chapter for Plymouth Hospitals Charity
The new hub, strategically situated in one of the hospital’s busiest areas, will serve as a central point for showcasing the vital work of Plymouth Hospitals Charity. The charity, which supports a wide range of initiatives across University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, aims to improve patient care, enhance facilities, and support the wellbeing of hospital staff.

Driving Awareness and Fundraising
The hub’s launch represents more than just a physical move—it marks a shift towards greater accessibility and community engagement. Visitors will now have an opportunity to learn about the charity's campaigns, make donations, and explore volunteering opportunities.
“We’re thrilled to move into this wonderful new space,” said Head of Charity Corinne Smith. “As the Trust’s charity being located at the front of Derriford Hospital means we can engage directly with patients, visitors, and staff, sharing the stories of how their support makes a difference. We are incredibly grateful for the generous contributions from local companies refurbishing the Hub at no cost to us. It is a total pleasure to work with them and the Trust, to create a warm and welcoming environment for everyone”.

A Space for the Community
The charity plans to use the hub as a multipurpose space, where supporters can drop in to ask questions, make donations, and find out about upcoming events. It will also host occasional fundraising activities and provide a visible reminder of the charity’s role in improving local healthcare.
For staff and volunteers, the hub will act as a dedicated space to coordinate efforts, share ideas, and continue growing the charity’s impact.

Making a Difference Together
For many years, Plymouth Hospitals Charity has supported University Hospitals Plymouth, at Derriford Hospital and all its satellite locations, providing funds for initiatives ranging from buying state-of-the-art medical equipment to establishing peaceful surroundings for patients. With the new hub in such a prime location, the charity hopes to broaden its reach, inspire new donors, and ensure its mission is known to all who visit the hospital. The old pharmacy space is currently being renovated thanks to donations from Devon construction and property services company Willmott Dixon, and other local building firms. We are delighted that local businesses are supporting us in this way and we look forward to not just opening our doors in early 2025 but welcoming everyone into the space that will enable us to raise funds that will go towards truly making a difference.
