More information about being a patient
If you need to know more about how to get here, visiting as a day patient, or if you will need to stay overnight, there is a lot of information to help you on our website. You can find out more about your appointment, what to bring with you and what will happen during your visit or admission on our I am a patient page
Travelling to your appointment
Please allow plenty of time when travelling to your hospital appointment. If you are travelling at peak times, there may be traffic congestion. If you are driving, please allow time to find a parking space on site or consider using the park and ride. Derriford Hospital is well served by public transport. We have a nationally renowned green travel plan and encourage the use of public transport and using the park and ride, wherever possible. Find out about getting to Derriford hospital
Free and discounted parking and travel expenses at Derriford Hospital
If you are a blue badge holder, parking at Derriford Hospital is free. There are also other groups of patients for whom parking is free, such as parents of babies who are staying in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, carers, and relatives of those patients who are being cared for by the critical care unit or End of Life Pathway. Parking is also free for those visiting the bereavement office. We also offer a discounted parking rate for frequent visitors of 5 days or longer. If you qualify under any of these groups, please go to the Parking Desk in the main entrance on Level 6 to obtain your special parking permit. Proof of appointments must be shown and an authorisation slip obtained from the department or ward.
Some patients in receipt of certain state benefits may be entitled to a refund of their parking costs and travel expenses. You must show proof of benefits at each visit to re-claim fares. For further information please visit the Cashier’s Office (open 10am to 2pm) on level 7 of Derriford Hospital or telephone 01752 439805. Changes around the Derriford Hospital Site
Our Future Hospital Programme aims to transform how care is delivered and improve lives across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall through investment in the most up-to-date healthcare environment.
We are creating buildings and services to provide high-quality care and better health outcomes for people and their families, through every stage of life. Some of the main benefits will include a new purpose-built Urgent and Emergency Care facility which will double the space to care for the increasing numbers of patients with urgent and emergency conditions, as well as a new Urgent Treatment Centre on the Derriford Hospital site.
Please bear with us while this important construction work is taking place across our sites. Find out more on our Future Hospitals page
