When will your child be seen by a doctor/ the medical team?
There are many specialities that come up to see children on the wards. Normally the surgeons, ENT, plastics team will see in the morning. If your child is under Paediatrics this can be late morning/ early afternoon. Timings can vary depending on how busy the department is. If you have any questions or concerns about your child being seen please speak to the nurse looking after you.
What can my child do whilst we are here?
We have a variety of things to help keep your child occupied at the bed space or in our games room. There is a play team which are available Monday-Saturday. They also provide support during your admission and can help prepare your child if they are due to have any procedures (for example a blood test). Please ask a member for further details.
When will my child be discharged?
We your child is well enough to go home, the doctors will notify the nursing staff. This process can often take a while, especially if needing medications from pharmacy. Please bear with us. As soon as it is ready, we will get you discharged. Please arrange transport home. If you are under the Paediatric team, you will be given 72 hours open access. Please speak to the nursing staff about this.
Feedback and concerns
We welcome back any feedback! On discharge you will be given a Friends and Family questionnaire, we value your feedback. If you would like to discuss anything during your admission, please speak to a member of the ward team. The nurse in charge will be happy to speak to you when they are available. If we don’t know we can’t help so communication is key.
Our ward manager Laura Crawford has an office based on the ward and will also be happy to speak if she is available.
If you feel that your concerns have not been resolved whilst on the ward, then you are able to contact PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service)
