Head and Neck Services
All newly diagnosed cases of head and neck cancer are discussed at a weekly Multidisciplinary Team meeting (MDM) held immediately before the clinic. ENT surgeons, Maxillofacial surgeons, Plastic surgeons, Pathologists and Head & Neck Radiologists in addition to the head and neck clinic staff attend this meeting. This is part of a joint videoconferencing facility with RCHT hospital in Truro to allow discussion of patients in West Cornwall.
Our head and neck lump clinic is a consultant delivered service aimed at being a one stop diagnostic facility for head & neck cancers. The clinic runs weekly and comprises the following clinical staff:
- Consultant Head and Neck Surgeons
- Consultant Clinical Oncologist
- Macmillan Speech & Language Therapist
- Macmillan Head & Neck Specialist Dietitian
- Macmillan Head & Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist
- Experienced outpatient nurses
- Training grades from all disciplines
The following services are available at the clinic:
- Initial consultation
- Same day fine needle aspiration of neck lumps and reporting
- Ultrasound guided biopsy and report
- Same day biopsy of suspicious lesions
- Access to dedicated slots for imaging of new cases
- Access to theatre within 3 days of diagnostic procedures
- Post radiotherapy and chemotherapy clinic with a nurse, speech therapist and dietician
