Change of access to Children's Emergency Department (ED)

Starting Wednesday 2 April 2025, pedestrian walk-ins to the Children's Emergency Department (ED) will need to enter the building via the Main Entrance at the front of Derriford Hospital. This is due to the construction work taking place outside the Emergency Department.

All minors (under 16) will need to be brought through the main entrance doors. Please then follow the signs directing you to the Children's Emergency Department. Once you arrive, press the intercom button for access.

The main entrance doors are kept open from 6.15am to 9pm. Outside of these hours, access is available via an intercom button to the right hand side of the doors, and someone will assist you. Then follow the signs with the pink octopus.

Patients arriving by ambulance will continue to enter through the red main Emergency Department doors.

Parking Information:
Parents and carers can initially use the drop-off bays in Car Park F (the disabled car park). For longer stays, the nearest parking options are:

  • Car Park A (opposite the main entrance)
  • The Multi-Storey Car Park

Please note the single-story road opposite the main entrance of Derriford Hospital is now closed to public vehicles. To access the parking options above, you will need to enter the site via Morlaix Drive or the mini roundabout at the top of Hospital Road. Please read our recent update for further details and a map.
