The PReM-ED Study

The PReM-ED study image

Dr Blair Graham, Lecturer in Urgent and Emergency Care has developed a multicentre study in collaboration with Dr Jason Smith, and Professor Jos Latour to assess the validity of a new patient experience survey.

People over the age of 65 frequently attend hospital emergency departments (ED) and as some have complex needs or have a higher risk of things going wrong, there is an urgent need to determine if people in this age group are receiving the correct care. The survey not only gives patients an opportunity to evaluate the care and treatment they receive, from arriving and waiting in ED to being discharged, it could provide valuable data that will assist in developing ED services and improve future patient care.

The study will consist of 360 participants who will be approached and recruited at one of 21 sites across the UK and results are expected within the next 12 months.
