Celebration of special fundraiser Jill Oxley in the form of a dedicated award

Jill OxleyJill Oxley is an exceptional fundraiser and is well known amongst the hospital’s Adult Cystic Fibrosis team at University Hospitals Plymouth (UHP). Back in 2012, Jill sadly lost her son Jon-Paul, age 21 to Cystic Fibrosis (CF). To honour his memory and the care that he received, Jill set up the Jon Paul Oxley Memorial Fund, and has worked tirelessly since 2014, raising over £6,000.

Despite her own battle with grief, Jill has really persevered with raising funds for the CF patients. Even prior to this, Jill was no stranger to fundraising and has turned her hand to a variety of events to raise money for UHP. From bric-a-brac, raffles and talent shows to bake sales, seasonal fairs and football tournaments, she has plenty of experience arranging these successful and fun events. The money raised has been used to help those on the transplant list and the unique challenges that come with it.

As Caroline Whitton, Cystic Fibrosis Specialist Nurse explains, “The difference this makes to families at a time of stress cannot be quantified. Financial considerations shouldn’t be part of the huge decision that is going on the transplant list, but unfortunately the costs incurred does impact options and decisions for some patients. The extra support we can offer as a result of Jill’s fundraising really does make a life-changing difference. Even in the face of loss of family members to COVID-19, as soon as restrictions were lifted she set to start fundraising again- her resilience and determination are second to none! She is a forced to be reckoned with, and her continued support and fundraising is a testament to the love she has for Jon-Paul.”

It was an honour for Plymouth Hospital’s Charity to be able to be present when Jill was awarded the '65 Roses Contribution Award' for her outstanding contribution to the Plymouth Adult Cystic Fibrosis fund. Jamie Lee, Charity Engagement Coordinator reflects, “What Jill, Helen and Kim have achieved in the ten years since JP died is absolutely incredible, and they should be proud of everything they've done. Thank you Jill for your continuous fundraising as a tribute legacy to JP, we are truly very grateful.”

Jill continues to fundraise and will be at Harewood House community centre during the week of August 1- 5 raising money for the Jon Paul Oxley memorial fund.
