Our New Charity Hub Opens at Derriford Hospital

We’re excited to announce that our brand-new Charity Hub at Derriford Hospital has been officially opened today — a vibrant and welcoming space where we can connect with patients, visitors, and staff, and share the difference your support makes every single day.

A Home for Hope and Generosity

The new Charity Hub sits just along from the hospital’s main entrance, right in the heart of the action. It’s been designed as a space where everyone can drop in — to find out more about the work of Plymouth Hospitals Charity, to get involved, or simply to say hello.

Louise Gallie, fundraiser and UHP volunteer, cut the ribbon to the new hub. She said:

“As a former ICU patient, I am now a proud ICU rehab volunteer and big supporter of the charity. They have been able to support so many projects within the Trust, improving patient experience, which is a massive passion of mine, and hospital facilities. The hub will provide a valuable public facing base from which the charity can continue to grow. I am truly honoured to be opening the hub.”

The new hub has been made possible entirely thanks to the kindness of our community. Special thanks go to Willmott Dixon, whose team refurbished the space at no cost to the charity as part of their commitment to social value. Their generosity means every penny raised by our supporters continues to go exactly where it’s needed — back into enhancing care across University Hospitals Plymouth.

“It gives us a brilliant opportunity to connect directly with patients, visitors, and staff—and to share the powerful stories of how their support can make a real difference.”
— Corinne Smith, Head of Charity

Each year, Plymouth Hospitals Charity awards around £1 million in grants that go above and beyond what NHS funding can provide. The hub will help us shine a spotlight on that impact, while also offering a place to ask questions, make a donation, and find out how you can help.

We’re also proud to support families who choose to honour loved ones through acts of kindness and legacy giving — ensuring those memories live on through care that touches countless lives.

“Our charity exists to do what the NHS alone cannot — to go further, reach higher, and deliver more.”
— Dr Stuart Windsor, Executive Lead, Plymouth Hospitals Charity

We’ll now be open 10am - 4pm Monday – Friday. We’d love you to pop in and say hello. Whether you're a member of staff, a patient, or just passing through, our team is ready to welcome you and share how you can be part of something bigger.
