Co-op donation brings music to Monkswell

Monkswell Ward at Derriford Hospital will be alive with the sound of music, thanks to a kind donation from the customers and staff of the Co-op in Higher Compton.
Monkswell was chosen as the benefactor of the branch’s annual Christmas hamper raffle, upon the suggestion of Ken Kenny, who paid staff a visit today to give them a cheque for £129.40. The money will be put towards CD players for the enjoyment of patients on the ward.
Ken is a familiar face to staff on Monkswell Ward, who treated his mother last year. He wanted to find a way to acknowledge the treatment that staff gave to his mother and to do something to benefit other patients during their stay.
“It is a very kind and very thoughtful gesture and we would like to extend a massive thank you to Ken and to the staff and customers of Co-op in Higher Compton” said Juliet Richardson, Senior Sister on Monkswell Ward.
“We’ve been planning on getting some CD players for a while now, so this donation will enable us to purchase a player for each bay and will really benefit patients.”
