Wednesday 15 June 2022 saw brave fundraisers abseil down the side of the 114 foot Innovation building at City College Plymouth. Plymouth Hospitals Charity, along with Friends and Families charity were chosen as the college’s Charity of the Year.
The turnout for the day was nothing short of impressive. With over 50 fundraisers rappelling down the side of the tall building along with a Mario-kart tournament, an inflatable course, live music, students hosting activities based around their speciality subjects and even a BBQ and ice-cream van, plenty of money was raised for both charities.
Andy Robinson and Vicky Ohlsson, two of University Hospital Plymouth’s (UHP) Paediatric Consultants in Emergency Medicine represented the charity and were amongst the first to abseil down the building. Andy tells us he enjoyed it all, adding, "Thank you to City College Plymouth for organising a great day today and for roping me in to abseil down the side of your library. I am so grateful to the organisers and those that participated, choosing to raise funds for the children's wards at University Hospital Plymouth. The money raised will make a real difference to our children and their families”.
Jamie Lee, Charity Engagement Co-ordinator, agrees “What a fantastic day. There was such a great atmosphere on campus for this whole event, and the charity is really grateful for all of the effort that City College Plymouth have put into raising money. We’re pleased that the students have been able to do something that we hope they will remember forever that will also benefits our patients and the local community."
