Elaine’s fourth donation to Torrington

We’d like to say a big thank you to Elaine Giles and the volunteers of Salisbury Road Baptist Church, who have donated £1,000 to our Cardiac Intensive Care and High Dependency Unit, Torrington.

Elaine (pictured left) presents the cheque to Sylvia and Torrington staff Elaine has been fundraising for Derriford Hospital every year since 2014, when she underwent heart surgery and stayed on Torrington for nine days. She has since made a full recovery.

“I received excellent care whilst at Derriford Hospital and this gift is just a small token of my appreciation,” she said.

Together with friends at the church, Elaine held her fourth coffee and cake morning earlier this year to raise the funds.

Sylvia Villaquiran, Ward Manager for Torrington said: “We’d like to thank Elaine for the very kind donation and for continuing to think of us. This is the fourth year that Elaine has contributed to our fund and it makes a huge difference to our patients.

“The money is always put to good use in improving the patients’ journey through cardiac intensive care and high dependency. This year it has helped to fund specialist ‘Progressa’ beds, which utilise gel pressure mattresses and air flow control to prevent pressure sores and moisture lesions. They can also transform into chairs which will greatly benefit future patients who are struggling with movement.”
