After smashing the Plymouth 10k, the Black Hats of Kier Bam at Devonport Dockyard have raised over £10,000 to be split between Plymouth Hospitals Charity (Derriford’s Children’s Fund) and Promoting Children in Plymouth (PCIP).

 

 

At the start of the year, the fantastic team — Robert Harris, Trevor Edwards, Ian Bartlett, Shane Doherty, Lee Gilbert, Steve Gilbert, David Rowley, Dan Baker, Steve Jearum, and Tanya Cegelnuka — collectively decided that they wanted to lose weight and improve their fitness levels. They each set themselves a personal weight goal and registered for the Plymouth 10k as motivation to train. They also wanted to use this great opportunity to raise money for Kier Bam's two chosen project charities.

 

Encouraging each other with weekly training sessions, their group chat helped them stay focused. They even set a £100 donation penalty for anyone who didn't reach their goal to raise the stakes!

 

All ten fundraisers finished the race, lost weight, and raised an incredible amount of money along the way. However, only Ian reached his goal weight, so a special shout out to him!

 

Thanks to their amazing efforts, we have been able to make some very special enhancements to three children's areas at Derriford Hospital. This includes funding a bubble tube for Woodcock Ward, a hurricane tube for the Pediatric Emergency Department, and a borealis tube along with some fiber optic lights for Children’s Theatre to join the bubble wall installed earlier this year .

 

Sensory items like these are excellent at creating calming spaces and are also a fun distraction for children. We are very grateful to the fantastic team for making all of this possible.
