Phlebotomy

Phlebotomists are part of the Assistant Technical Officer (ATO) group of staff based within the Combined Laboratory. The phlebotomy team provides a venepuncture service to both inpatients and outpatients.

For safe-sample labelling requirements and procedure please refer to the Trust document ‘Hospital Transfusion Policy’ [TRW.HGV.POL.269], Blood Sampling, section 7.

 

Derriford Hospital Phlebotomy Department operates over two sites, Future Inn, William Prance Road and Derriford Hospital, Level 6 Main Outpatients. We offer a no appointment necessary, drop-in service. In order to manage social distancing on the trust site patients are encouraged to attend at the Future Inn option wherever possible. GP patients requiring a blood test that is unable to be performed at the GP surgery are also asked to use this facility.

The Phlebotomy team based at The Future Inn and in the Main OPD on the hospital site are unable to see patients under the age of 16. For patients under the age of 16 please contact The Children & Young Peoples Outpatients Department located on level 12 to book an appointment - Tel 01752 245126 or 430927.
