Phlebotomy (Blood test)

University Hospitals Plymouth (UHP) currently provides three phlebotomy (blood test) clinics for patients over the age of 16.

  • Windsor House, Tavistock Road. UHP Hospital patients and GP bookable appointments.

  • Derriford Hospital, Zone B, Level 3. For urgent and same day UHP Hospital patients only.

  • Dartmoor Building, first floor, Derriford Hospital. UHP hospital patients with booked appointments and patients attending outpatient appointments at the Dartmoor building. No GP appointments are available at this site.

All GP patients and UHP Hospital patients who require routine (non -urgent) blood tests must book an appointment at Windsor House.

Urgent / Same day Blood Tests

Hospital patients being referred by a hospital consultant or clinic that need bloods done urgently or have other same-day appointments, such as haematology and oncology patients, can attend Windsor House or Derriford Hospital, Level 3, without an appointment at any time but we cannot guarantee the wait time.

We cannot guarantee the wait time for this service and patients attending after 4pm may not be seen if demand is high.

For patients to attend this urgent service, the requested blood tests must be clearly marked as URGENT by the clinician requesting the tests.

Patients will be sent back to their referring clinic or GP if their tests are not marked as urgent or assisted to make an appointment.

Please do not attend the Dartmoor Building for Urgent/Same day blood tests.

Specialist Blood Tests

Patients requiring specialist blood tests (samples that must be kept on ice, protected from light, or processed within 15 minutes) must use the phlebotomy service in Derriford Hospital on Level 3.

It is the responsibility of the clinician requesting these blood tests, to inform the patient of the need to attend the phlebotomy service in Derriford Hospital on Level 3.
