Scientific Computing
The scientific computing team helps maintain critical databases and IT systems used within HCST in areas such as Radiotherapy (e.g. treatment planning systems) and Clinical Engineering (e.g. equipment databases).
The team is actively involved in a range of innovation projects and has recently been leading on implementing RFID technology to track and trace medical devices around the hospital.
The directorate has ambitions to initiate a research and development programme in scientific computing applications with potential collaborative projects, such as artificial intelligence (AI) applications in Imaging.
The group is fully engaged in quality / service improvement and there are a number of initiatives currently underway.
The scientific computing team are also very much involved in project work, successfully implementing new and upgraded IT systems.
Scientific computing is anticipated to grow and there are exciting discussions with other interested parties such as UoP for collaborative projects.
