Image of MEMS innovationClinical Engineering provides a comprehensive and cost-effective medical equipment management service, supporting the activities of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust and surrounding healthcare organisations within the catchment area.

The department aims to provide a rapid response to urgent problems with minimum equipment 'down-time' and at minimum cost to the user. Clinical Engineering is organised into specialist teams: Critical Care (CC), Therapies & Diagnostics (D&T), Theatres & Anaesthetics (T&A), Specialist Mechanical Workshop (SMWS) and Medical Equipment Library (MEL).


Clinical Engineering manages the acquisition, maintenance, repair, decommissioning and disposal of Medical Devices. All medical devices that have been registered with Clinical Engineering carry the service label below containing the unique equipment number. This number should be quoted in all enquiries about a device. When returning a device to Clinical Engineering please keep a record of the equipment number and send the device to the address on the contacts page.
