Celebrating Choosing Greener Members

Since Choosing Greener was launched back in February 2022, the interactive platform has attracted an online community of green thinkers and climate pledgers. The platform developers have recently undertaken a members’ survey so the Sustainability team can have some helpful insights into member trends.

Be inspired by our colleagues who have been passionately choosing a greener lifestyle for as long as 2 years! 7% of our members have been using the platform for 2 years or more and 31% have been using the platform for 1-2 years. Indeed, 81% of our members have been using the platform for at least 1 month or more. That tells us that our members are committed to making long term changes to their behaviour to help the planet and their health. Imagine the impact we would have if we were all committed choosing greener members.

On average, members reported a 27% improvement on their sustainability journey as a direct result of using the Choosing Greener app. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being ‘sustainability isn't a consideration in my daily life’, 5 being 'I take some action but there is room for improvement', and 10 being ‘I'm as sustainable as possible in every area’) our members across all length of membership categories reported a positive increase in their sustainability actions. Additionally, a whopping 62% of members agreed that their sustainability actions have become part of their daily/weekly routines as a result of the programme. These figures can only be good news for the Trust’s contribution to combatting the climate crisis, and it is the goal of the Sustainability team to get as many people as we can to engage in the choosing greener activities to make that impact as far reaching as possible.

Making a difference doesn’t have to be arduous, and simple swaps and behavioural changes add up to Amazon or M&S vouchers. Each month the platform will provide relevant activities to get involved in depending on what’s going on…22nd September was Car Free Day, so this month has been full of Car Free Day related activities like quizzes, sustainable travel options, active travel behaviours etc. This is a great way to keep abreast of all the national or worldwide sustainable initiatives. It can be easy to feel defeated by the enormity of the climate crisis, but apps like Choosing Greener help to connect us to others who want to make a difference and give us practical ways to do our bit.

As part of the members survey, members were asked if they had any feedback for the app. We’re delighted to receive any and all feedback here in the Sustainability team- we want to support our colleagues to make sustainable choices in and out of work. We can’t do that without hearing from you!

We’ve heard your requests for webinars, rewards and more practical information (amongst other helpful suggestions!) and we’re working to cater to that need. Look out for sustainability news in the Daily Email, and please get in touch if you have any bright ideas.
