Positively Green

In 2023, the Trust invested in Warp It, an online portal that allows members to swap, give away or acquire a range of NHS goods. In the past 3 years, UHP has saved over £98,000 through our use of Warp It, meaning that money can instead be funnelled into patient care. Alongside financial savings, Warp It has saved the Trust 38,486kgCO₂e which is roughly equivalent to CO₂ emissions from the consumption of 4,331 gallons of petrol. The past few years has seen a great deal of physical changes at the hospital and warp it has been an important asset in making sure we don’t waste surplus equipment that seems to arise during moves.

In the past year, Warp It has enabled staff to swap a whole range of items including 8 office pedestals, 5 desks, 2 office chairs and 5 cupboards from our neighbours at Plymouth Science Park. This collaboration meant that these items were saved from going to waste and we’re so grateful for their help and support in rescuing the perfectly good furniture for reuse! Other items swapped across the hospital this year included:

• Tiger waste bin

• Stores trolleys

• Filing cabinets

• Bookcases

•  Drug fridge

• Unopened detergent wipes

• iPad charging cabinet

What items can be reused through Warp It?

Mostly reusable furniture, electrical equipment that doesn’t have an asset number, fixtures and fittings, office consumables (such as stationery), and general supplies. Medical equipment/devices are not permitted to be advertised on Warp It and IT equipment with asset numbers will need to be disposed of as per the normal procedure. Colleagues’ swapping of equipment from September 2025 to September 2026 resulted in the following totals:

• 102 claims of items

• 13,963 kgCO₂e

• 6,524 kg of waste avoided

• £38,355 of financial savings
